Medication Refills
How to get your medications refilled.
All refills are currently handled by the Refill Manager: Amanda Hassell LVN and the Triage Nurse: Lisa Pool LVN. The only prescription requests not handled by these two employees are mail order requests. These are sent to your doctor's nurse for processing, and may either be mailed to you or you may pick them up here. The Medication Refill Policy is as follows...
1. Please allow 3-5 working days for refills of routine medications.
2. For all refill requests, please call your pharmacy first, and they will contact your physician for approval. Do not call the clinic directly.
3. If your medication refill need is urgent, please call the clinic to speak with the Refill Manager. If you leave a voicemail message after 4:00 pm, it will be processed the next business day.
4. Pain medications or controlled substances will not be refilled without an office visit. These medications will not be refilled after regular office hours, or by any other clinic physician other than your physician.
5. If it has been a year since your last office visit (to review your medication), and you call for a refill request, you will be asked to schedule an appointment. A limited supply of medications can be ordered for a refill to carry you until the next earliest appointment.
Please bring all current medication prescribed by any of your doctors as well as over the counter medicines, herbal medicines, and vitamins to your annual office visit so they can be reviewed by your physician.
Please check back with your pharmacy after placing a refill request. Please note, it can take 3-5 days form the time of your request until medication is actually ready for pickup at your pharmacy. The reason for the 3-5 day time period is the volume of prescriptions filled. This clinic meets the needs of approximately 5,000 patients. The local pharmacies also have large volumes of prescriptions to fill. For example, our local HEB pharmacy does approximately 300-400 refills a day and approximately 300 new prescription fills per day for a total of 600-700 prescriptions a day. This is the reason it would be to your advantage to regularly check your medications in order to call for your refills 3-5 days prior to your medications running out. If you have called in advance and do not have your refills within 3-5 days, you may call the clinic and check the status of your refill; after first checking with your pharmacy. This policy is in place to ensure that patients get the best care possible.
